The Avlo train system is Spanish Renfe's low cost but high speed service. The idea is copied from France, where the state railways SNCF also has
high speed trains modified to resemble low cost airline carriers under the name Ouigo. These trains are modified high-speed trains where the
chairs are packed really tightly together. No services are offered and passengers can take only small suitcases with them. Avlo's services do not
cover the whole country, but it links major cities such as Madrid, Zaragoza, Malaga and Barcelona using the already existing high speed lines.
The idea is to minimise costs partly by minimising the times that the trains stand still at stations.
Avlo's trains are modified Renfe AVE trains of the model S-112 built by Talgo but with chairs packed as tightly as possible. An upgrade to use
even newer S-106 trains is planned.
Here we see one of Avlo's S-112 trains which has left Málaga just minutes ago and is heading north on the new high speed line.
