     You never really find out who shuts the trap door on you, but it 
isn't important anyway.  To keep it from happening, you need to find one 
other exit from the G.U.E. besides the chimney (which isn't a good 
choice, because you can only take one treasure at a time).  Once you've 
done this, after you open the trap door, it will reamin open.
