Hi,

my 13 year old son tries to install Minix on a 80286 (he
bought it for 3$ :-) There are 2 x 720 KB floppy drives,
no hard disk, 640 K memory and a Hercules card (I'm not too
sure about that, but it looks like one)

We boot Minix with the ROOT disk and mount USR1. There are no
problems with the screen as long as we are in the boot manager,
but as soon as we log in as root, we have the problem that
from time to time the commands you type (and the minix output)
do not appear on the screen. After about 10 commands the whole
screen is restored again and you can see that minix executed
all the commands correctly (I think the screen is restored as
soon as the "black" part is scrolled against the top of the
screen).

Another problem we have is that we don't know how to enter the
bios setup (we have tried basically all keys). The battery seems
to be low since the date is always wrong even after booting. The
pc is supposed to have 2 MB RAM, is it possible that the reason
for Minix just finding 640 K is the setup configuration ?

Thanx for any help

(my son thought Minix was really great in the beginning but now
he thinks MS-DOS was not that bad after all SO A SOLUTION IS
REALLY IMPORTANT :-)
