Mats Brunell NORDUNET 1991-04-29 PM, proposal, Draft version 1 Proposal on NETF operations coordination group activities ========================================================= Background ---------- A set of new serviceproviders in the Nordic area has now emerged providing Internet IP services. Several people has identified the need for coordiantion between these groups in order to come to terms with both technical and adminstrtions function of common interest. At teh joint meeting between teleoperators in teh Nordic area in Copenhagen on April 12 1991, the parties agreeed to use the NETF umbrella. Internet IP is a dynamic network service, which needs a high level of coordination between the parties. The Internet is in principle one collaborative domain. This is a proposal to define the objectives and activities needed. Objectives ---------- To define and propose solution to the neccesary technical and adminsitrative steps in order to provide a homogeneous Internet IP service within the Nordic area and to the rest of the world. Membership ---------- The group is open, and would like to attract all providers of wide-area Internet IP services in the Nordic countries. Activities ---------- Define a plan for interconnection of all Nordic IP WAN-IP services so that external routes to the US and Euore may be easily made: - overall routing and topology plan - routing domains - routing protocols used - filtering - interconnection issues: - type of interconnection, Ethernet or serial links - routing protocols used - DNS service - root.service - secondaries - backups - Mail MX records - Naming & addressing issues (covered is separate working group) - Operational/Management/NOC information - Security altert organisation - CERT - peronal contacts - Use of Management tools like SNMP, coomunity strings, authentication - Principles for service agreements - International coordination activities Time ---- First general meeting, during the NETF in Copenhagen Sept 30 - Oct 2 1991.
