Is there some utility that will convert these into something I >can handle with my Mac (e.g., a folder of PICT files)? Patty or Art: Sorry, there's not much other than PowerPoint that can convert PowerPoint. The newer versions from Office 98 or 2001 can save presentations as a series of jpegs. The usual extension for a "presentation" file is .ppt. I think the .pps extension is a "show" file. I don't think that makes much difference to your ability to translate them though. It comes with 25 built in pictures, and allows you to personalize the calendar by importing your own pictures. It's a fun Christmas activity for everyone, and ideal for families with young children. The program opens on a snow scene with 25 numbered boxes. You click on the dates in order to expand them and then click and drag your mouse to gradually reveal the pictures hidden behind the dates. Although PhotoAdvent is not a screen saver, certain entertaining things do happen when PhotoAdvent is left idle for a period of time. PhotoAdvent is Shareware from InstantWorld Software. Minimum System Requirements: System 7.0, 8 MB RAM, 68030 Processor, 640x480 Monitor (PPC or better and a monitor capable of Thousands of Colors strongly recommended.) Program Switcher is a convenient timesaving control panel that allows you to switch between the applications running on your System 7.1 or greater Macintosh via a simple two-key keystroke. It was inspired by the same function found in "Windows," but has been improved and transformed into a unique and fully configurable control panel that makes switching applications on the Macintosh as simple as pressing a couple of keys. A Mac OS X version is under development. Key features include: - The ability to switch, launch, quit, or hide any application with a simple keystroke - The ability to switch, hide, or close windows with a simple keystroke - Full support for the latest MacOS technologies, such as Appearance, Navigation Services, and Multiple Users. - Elegant, unobtrusive interface that makes the seemingly simple task of switching applications truly simple and easy to do. - A powerful suite of user configurable hot keys, including such actions as "Open File" and "Quit All Applications". Version 5.5.2J fixes a bug where the user was unable to define a keystroke for a hot key if no other hot keys were already defined. Version 5.5.1r1J fixes a problem with the display of Japanese fonts. Version 5.5.1J fixes two bugs with the hot keys feature: - Bug which allowed more than one hot key have the same keystroke - Bug were certain hot key preferences were lost [Archived as /info-mac/gui/program-switcher-552-jp.hqx; 819 K] ------------------------------ Date: 3 Nov 2000 From: Richard Bannister To: Subject: [*] Space Debris v2.2 - A Crystal Quest clone for Macintosh Space Debris is a Crystal Quest style game for Macintosh. An update was released today for the first time in over two years, bringing it to v2.2. ¥ Space Debris is now nearly five years old. The shareware fee, originally $25.00, no longer seems appropriate, and for that reason, I have cut the price to just $10.00 as of this release. Special thanks to all those who paid for Space Debris at the original price. ¥ The Control Strip is now hidden during play (PowerMacs only). ¥ Fixed a cosmetic glitch that occurred during loading on some systems. ¥ Updated the web and e-mail addresses in the program. ¥ Added a speed throttle to the monitor fade in/out so that it doesn't occur instantly on PowerMac G4s. ¥ Rewrote the preferences handling code. The format has been changed, unfortunately, so you will need to re-enter your old registration code if you are upgrading from a previous release. ¥ Corrected a bug that caused some of the enemies on later levels to jump alarmingly under certain situations. ¥ Added a display of how many games you've played to the about box. ¥ Appearance Alert dialog boxes are now movable. ¥ Probably other minor things I can't remember. The official web page is here: http://www.bannister.org/software/ Enjoy! Tex-Edit Plus is a scriptable, styled text editor that fills the gap between Apple's bare-bones SimpleText and a full-featured word processor. It's fast, efficient, and has a clean, uncluttered interface. It's also great for cleaning up text which is transmitted over the Internet. Tex-Edit Plus features: PowerPC native (fat), extensive munging abilities, unlimited file size, Drag&Drop support, AppleScript support, Word Services support, Speech Manager support, picture handling, sound handling, movie handling, ability to create SimpleText Read-Only documents, and much more. System 7.0 or better required. NEW IN 4.0.3 -- Tex-Edit Plus 4.0.3 eliminates a bug in 4.0.2 that prevented launch on certain systems and also employs the latest version of the WASTE text engine. Moving or resizing an unedited document no longer forces you to "Save Changes" when closing the document (4.0.2). A bug noted when opening small (< 2 character) text files was fixed and a font size/ baseline height bug on 68K machines was fixed (4.0.2). VERSION 4 : Tex-Edit Plus 4.0 represents a major upgrade, including many new features--all scriptable, of course! (This version requires MacOS 7.1 or newer.) Tex-Edit Plus supports unlimited undo and redo. A new "strikethrough" text style is supported. Flexible superscripting and subscripting are supported (in one point increments). "Text hiliting" is supported, allowing hiliter-like emphasis of any text. Tex-Edit Plus can read and write UTF-16 (unicode) text. The new file format is fully backward compatible with previous versions. Each paragraph can be formatted individually. These new paragraph settings include text justification (left, center, right, full), space above, space below, left indent, right indent, first line indent (or hanging outdent), and bottom border (in one of several line styles). Each paragraph can also have its own line spacing (in one point increments) and dominant text direction (useful for right-to-left scripts). Rebuilding a corrupt Desktop often does not cure the problem 2) Consider getting DiskWarrior - it handles a different category of Disk related problems, rebuilding and optimizing the disk directory structure (different from the Desktop). It rebuilds them from scratch. 3) Trash the preferences files - particularly anything to do with File Exchange Preferences Finder Preferences any translation software you have installed e.g. MacLinkPlus 9.7 4) Assuming that none of this helps, you may actually have a hardware problem - either HD or logic board. -- Hay for the horses, Whiskey for my men, and a plate of flies for my pet toad! ______^______ ================*----(___\) "Sleek & Fast, a G3 Powered Machine" Maurice "Mike" McNeil (858) 495-2619/2600 FAX: 7313 CELL: 354-6565 BBN Technology Solutions mmcneil@bbn.com 9655 Granite Ridge Drive, Ste 245 San Diego, CA 92123 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Nov 2000 19:52:00 -0400 From: Sylvain Garneau To: digest@info-mac.org Subject: Opening image file import from a PC system Hi everybody!
