******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ** ** ** XpressFax Version 1.0.5+ ** ** Installation Information Help File ** ** ** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** To install XpressFax 1.0.5+ from an ftp'ed xpressfax-1.0.5+.tar.Z file you will need to have a coyp of xpressfax-1.0.5+.tar.Z and install_tar.sh. If you do not have these files they may be ftp'ed from ftp.xpressware.com via anonymous ftp. NOTE: THIS ENTIRE PROCESS HAS BEEN "SCRIPT"ED USING THE SCRIPT COMMAND INTO THE FILE "install_tour"... WHEN IN DOUBT TAKE A LOOK AT THIS FILE. 1) Create a local login for the fax software and pick a home directory for the software which has at least 20Mb of free disk space. We suggest: xprfax:*:UID:GID:XpressFax Software:/usr/xpressfax:/bin/csh 2) Make sure the home directory for xprfax exists and is owned by xprfax. 3) BE LOGGED IN AS ROOT RUNNING X WINDOWS OR OPENWIN ON A GRAPHICAL DISPLAY. 4) From the directory with xpressfax-1.0.5+.tar.Z and install_tar.sh in it execute the 'install_tar.sh' script. This will install the software from the compressed tar file. If you do not have a fax modem attached the fax driver part of the software (xpressfax_modem) will not be able to synch with the modem on the serial line you specify during the install process. Other than the fact that you can't send or receive faxes without a faxmodem this doesn't break the rest of the software. You will need to acquire a LICENSE STRING to use the software. You can get an evaluation license string from GNP Computers by calling 818-577-4252 from 9am-5pm PST. You will need your hostid and the serial number of the software you ftp'ed (0000cdcd by default). This information is displayed in the 'faxlicense' module. 5) Logout and log back in as xprfax to use the software. Note that only "xprfax" is an authorized user when the software is first installed so you'll have to login or 'su' to xprfax and use 'faxregister' to register yourself or other users. Make sure that newly registered users set the following environment variables and run 'new_faxrc' to create a ~/.faxrc to use the software. (Add to .cshrc file) setenv XPRESSFAX_HOME ~xprfax set path = ($path ~xprfax/bin) (then 'source .cshrc and run "new_faxrc" followed by "fax")
